Now, we may teach our children myths as myths, but why do we teach...
a) Christopher Columbus discovered America. Are we still so closed-minded and Euro-centred that we ignore the facts that the Chinese, Africans, "Vikings", etc. came to America first?
and..
b) Christopher Columbus must've been a great philosopher because he had this great hunch that the world was round. He just knew.... When anyone educated knew the Earth was round by Ancient Greek Philosophers and Scientists such as Eratosthenes whom knew the distance and diameter of the Earth, Moon and Sun by the 3rd century B.C.E. - which was common knowledge by the 1700's C.E.
Why do we teach our children these myths? |
