NEW ORLEANS - Hurricane Katrina victims whose homes and businesses were destroyed when floodwaters breached levees in the 2005 storm cannot recover money from their insurance companies for the damages, a federal appeals court ruled Thursday. The case could affect tens of thousands of rebuilding residents and business owners in Louisiana, Daniel E. Becnel, who represented 21 plaintiffs in the case, said. Insurers could have taken a “multibillion dollar hit” if the ruling had gone against the industry, said David Rossmiller, an insurance attorney and analyst. “This event was excluded from coverage under the plaintiffs’ insurance policies, and under Louisiana law, we are bound to enforce the unambiguous terms of their insurance contracts as written,” Judge Carolyn King wrote for a three-judge panel of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Aug 2, 10:01 AM EST The Associated Press CHICAGO -- R. Kelly will go on trial next month, more than five years after he was charged with child pornography. Judge Vincent Gaughan has set a Sept. 17 date for the start of a jury trial, according to the Cook County state's attorney's office. The Chicago Sun-Times reported on its Web site that setting of the date followed a lengthy meeting Wednesday among the judge, the lead prosecutor, the R&B singer and his lawyers. Kelly, who was born Robert Sylvester Kelly, has pleaded not guilty to 14 counts of child pornography. He was charged in 2002 and is accused of allegedly engaging in videotaped sex acts with an underage girl. Kelly's attorneys haven't conceded that he is on the tape, saying his likeness may have been computer generated. They have also tried to raise doubts about the identity and age of the girl. The case has been hit with delay after delay. Since being charged, Kelly has had six best-selling albums and three nationwide tours. The 40-year-old singer has said he'll survive his legal tribulations. "I'm going through my own struggle ... and you're either gonna fold or you're going to stand," Kelly told The Associated Press in 2005, "and I believe in standing." More on R. Kelly

Ft Lewis has decided that we are losing too many soldiers to offer 'individual' memorials for those that are killed in action. They will now offer a 'once a month' service. If a man wants you, nothing can keep him away. If he doesn't want you, nothing can make him stay. Stop making excuses for a man and his behavior. Robert asked all of his nearest friends and his parents and his girlfriends parents to come into Atlanta and he paid for all of them to spend the night at the Ritz their in Atlanta. He told his girlfriend, who is now his fiancé, that they were going to a formal affair at the Ritz. You will notice in the video that they are both dressed for a formal event. When they got there he had all of his male friends gathered in one room and he asked them to interview his girlfriend (so to speak). They were allowed to ask her questions that they felt would provide answers to reassure them & him that she is the one for him. Then he had each of his male friends to join their wives in their individual rooms and each couple prayed with them (he & his girlfriend) separately. He also had an envelope in each of the rooms with the individual couples. The envelopes touched upon different aspects of their future together. Then he took his girlfriend into the room where they greeted his parents and then into a room where they greeted her parents and there he asked her parents for her hand in marriage. Lastly, he took her into a separate room and formally proposed to her (AWESOME). From there they joined all of their very immediate family and friends in a room where they celebrated his proposal to her (their engagement).
