I know what you're thinking, another vampire movie. And in some aspects, you are correct. But in a twist, it takes place in Barrow Alaska, which has a month of darkness, hence the title.
I'd first like to compliment the casting person. They did an excellent job of putting the right people in the right spot. Not once do you look at the person, and say that there is no way that they could play the part. Usually there's one or two per movie, but not here.
Next I'd like to compiment the special effects people. They did some gore, but didn't go overboard. In today's overboard society, they did a great job of reigning themselves in.
The acting was good. There was very little overacting. It seems like an unknown cast, but you will recognize a few of the actors, from similar sized roles in other movies.
Josh Hartnett was the biggest star in it, and he was pretty good as the town constable. He had a horrible haircut, but he was in Alaska, and he usually does. But his acting was stellar, and he did a really nice job.
Melissa George played his estranged wife. I want to say, she's smoking hot. And she was in a parka, and still looked tiny. I don't know how they did it. She also did a fine job in it, made you believe her in the role.
The best job was by Ben Foster. He played the creepy stranger who came into town, and sort of let you know what was coming. He was creepy, intense, and very good in the little time he had on screen.
I would have liked to have seen more story telling where the Vampires came from. They just sort of appear after the stranger. I do like the fact that they speak their own language. The race has been around for centuries, English in Alaska for way less time supposedly.
I would have thought that they Vampires would have dressed in more local attire, not in the suits and clothes that they were in.
But for the most part, it was little things that bugged me about the movie.along good, kept yoiu on the edge of your seat, and seemed pretty fresh idea wise.
All in all, I'd give it 8 stakes thru the heart out of 10
