Daniel Joseph Geary KIA March 20, 2009. ----------------------------------------------------------- Speaking through tears, and pausing every few words, Geary’s fiancée, Rachel Patterson, reflected on the loss of the man she was to have married in May, when Geary was scheduled to return. “I love you, Dan,” Patterson said. “I know that you’re at peace now. Daniel, I will always be with you. I love you.” Geary died while supporting combat operations in Afghanistan’s Farah province, according to the U.S. Department of Defense. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, and based at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
