This page is in the works and will be updated soon!!!!!!I'm not here for popularity, I have another profile that is about me and i'm not gonig to advertise it on here,I figured that since there are so many people on here that this would be an excellent opportunity to get the word out for some great causes. We have all been touched in some way by illnesses and cancers,Some have stories about survivors and some are just to painful, but i'm sure we all have one thing in common and that is we don't want it to keep happening,we can't stop it but we can try to beat it and the first step in the road to recovery is Awareness,If you or someone you know would like to share your story with me i would be more then honored to hear from you! Lets Raise Awareness and find a cure! Cancer causes cells to respond and grow out of control in organ(s) and/or tissue(s) ultimately forming a mass of cells, commonly known as a tumour.Benign tumours grow and become larger only at their origin. Malignant or cancerous tumours grow locally but also carry the potential to invade and destroy surrounding tissue, as well as tissue in remote areas of the body. However, not all localized growths are benign, nor are all multiple-site growths malignant. Only your physician and/or specialist can advise you.WHAT IS BREAST CANCER?Breast cancer occurs almost exclusively in women with less than 1% of cases in Canada occurring in men. Breast Cancer is more common in women over the age of 50 although it certainly does occur in younger women as well. When a mass, lump or thickening is found in the breast -- either by breast self-examination (BSE), a clinical breast exam or mammography - it will be investigated to determine if it is benign or malignant.Benign Breast LumpsMost breast lumps are benign (not cancerous) and are caused by fibrocystic changes. Benign tumours cannot spread beyond the breast tissue to other organs and are not life threatening.Malignant (Cancerous) Breast Lumps Usually, the cancerous tumour originates from the cells of milk sacs or ducts but can arise from the supporting structure. There is much room for variation in its development, including discharge or bleeding from the nipple. While there are exceptions, cancerous breast tissue tends to present as a hard mass in the breast and is painless. ARE THERE DIFFERENT TYPES OF BREAST CANCER?There are several types of breast cancer. The most common types are ductal and lobular, and each type can be either invasive or in situ. Less common forms of breast cancer include inflammatory, medullary, mucinous, papillary, squamous cell, cribriform, tubular and Paget’s Disease. After a diagnosis of cancer has been confirmed, the cancer is classified into a particular stage. The stage of the cancer helps determine what treatment is necessary and how effective this treatment may be in getting rid of the disease and prolonging life (prognosis). The earlier the stage is at diagnosis, the better the prognosis.

How Common is Breast Cancer? Breast cancer is the cancer diagnosed most frequently in North American women. Nearly 200,000 new cases are diagnosed in American and Canadian women each year and nearly 65,000 women die from the disease each year in the USA and Canada. What is my risk of developing breast cancer? One statistic that is often quoted is that women have a 1 in 9, or even a 1 in 8 chance of developing breast cancer. This number is alarming and needs explanation. It is true that a woman has a 1 in 9 (or 11%) chance of developing breast cancer, but this is true only if she lives to the age of 90. Many women do not live to this age. A more useful way of assessing your risk for developing breast cancer is to know your risk over the next year, or the next 5 years or up to a certain age. The chance of developing breast cancer increases with age. Therefore, your age at the present time very much determines your risk of breast cancer over the next year or 5 to 10 years I Can Cope I Can Cope is an educational program for people facing cancer—either personally, or as a friend or family caregiver.
