@ CherryTAP has posted a blog that was very well written (and he felt that it needed to be shared) and I have offered the following as my response to his blog posting,
Border Fences?, as I am no stranger to the topic:
"One of the better written arguments for the border security. As a Texan, I am one of those that live within 250 miles of the border.
I don't have a problem with the immigrants coming to the US to seek better education, jobs, and a way of life; it is just that they need to do it legally, albeit I understand that their process to apply costs more than what they make and is perceptually very expensive.
What worries me more than the immigrants are the drug cartels waging wars right on our borders and putting the lives of those who have lived on the border in jeopardy. People talk about the wars of Iraq and other countries; if they only realized how close we actually are to various level of wars in our own backyard. It has been published about in many Texas magazines and newspapers, but it doesn't seem to be a National concern.
That is until now. If they have to build the fence under the 'guise of the immigration issue, so be it. If the fence (and other security placed by Governor Perry) will aid in preventing the criminals from affecting our livelihood, I am certainly all for it.
While one mode of protection isn't seemingly enough, the combination of the security efforts that have been placed are helping to provide me a sense of security, albeit I know that often times, it only serves to keep the honest potential criminals out.
There is no perfect answer, but it is, at least, a start!"
