THE MEETING;
Only for tonight
You softly whispered to me
Only for tonight
Etched in my memory
It was a peaceful arid summer night
The time that we first met
A night that started out so plain
A night I won’t forget
I was driving down a dusty road
Somewhere lost within myself
You were leaning up against your car
I asked if I could help
For a moment you seemed to hesitate
Then you climbed into the seat
I could tell you had been crying
By the dust smeared on your cheek
Our eyes locked for a moment
Then you said, “just drive away”
I slowly reached across the seat
To wipe the tears off of your face
We drove it felt like miles
You seemed lost upon the road
As you gazed out of the window
Someone searching for her soul
You finally broke the silence
Told me to turn just up ahead
You smiled and whispered softly
There’s a cabin with a bed
I didn’t ask your meaning
Or question your intent
I followed your instructions
To park my car around the back
You led me to the doorway
Under the mat there was a key
But before you put it in the lock
You turned and said to me
Only for tonight
You softly whispered to me
Only for tonight
And then I’ll set you free
