Its a bit long but reads quickly. Again another poem that I was challenged to write.
All Hallows Eve
My tale begins on October 30th
The night before all Hallows Eve
His name was Stephapolne Gorbeshnikov
So we will just call him Steve
He came to town in the dark of night
Wearing a blackened cape and chapeau
He moved into Jake's old house
Just about a month ago
The windows still boarded shut
But from the chimney smoke would flow
You knew someone was inside
But never saw him come or go
Then on all hallows morn
Just a little bit past eight
Transylvania ground and air
Delivered a large wooden crate
Shortly after, a work crew arrived
Removing cob webs from the eaves
Clearing a path to the mezzanine
Hauling off both brush and leaves
Unboarding all but one window
So the R.I.P. would still remain
Painted there 2 years ago
When Jake and Sue were slain
No one talks about that night
Dispatch got a call from John
By the time the sheriff arrived,
Both the bodies were gone
(John said the scene was gruesome
A horrendous wolf attack
It couldn’t have been just one
Probably a very large pack)
(So no one ever questioned
Why no bodies were found
There were so many paw prints
And drag marks on the ground)
Mom was working at the diner
So I rode my bike to town
I wanted to tell her about Jake's house
And what was going down
I was too late, the news was out
Everyone had received the invite
An all Hallows Masquerade
4308 Mockingbird tonight
Your Host Mr. Gorbeshnikov
Wishes all to attend
Come one come all
Be it foe or friend
Join in the festivities
Feast on delights
Mingle with the Spirits
On this night of all nights
Curiosity overpowered caution
A mystery to be solved
Who was this man of darkness
A question to be resolved
Now Willow Creek was small
A population of thirty five
A plan to meet at the iron gates
Together we’d all arrive
Adorned in cloaks and masks
Our identities undisclosed
Suddenly without warning
The gate behind us closed
There was a brilliant flash of light
Followed by a thunderous roar
A dark silhouette appeared
Just beyond the opened door
Good evening and welcome
Won’t you all come in
Enter my humble abode
And let the feast begin
At this point there was no turning back
I think fear consumed us all
I knew that there was more to this
Than just a costume ball
The house was dimly lit
Below the mantle a fire burned
Pictures of Jake and Sue
Were everywhere I turned
My hands began to tremble
I prayed it was a dream
Then from above I heard
A blood curdling scream
Do not be alarmed
Our host said with a simper
First the screams, then the howls
Then the canine whimpers
The spirits are restless tonight
Anxious for revenge
With a curse they were bestowed
Tonight they will avenge
There was no way out
Bars covered every window
The doors were bolted shut
There was no where we could go
A woman's voice called out
From atop the spiral staircase
She wore a long flowing gown
And a mask to hide her face
“Tonight at the stroke of twelve
Retribution shall be mine
When on your living flesh
The Master and I will dine”
“We’ll pass along our curse
From this earth you’ll be banished”
As quickly as she appeared
The woman simply vanished
Mrs. Jones screamed then fainted
Patty and Beth began to cry
I grabbed a brass candle stick
“EAT ME”, I’d like to see you try
Panic engulfed the fearful guests
Mark yelled “are we men or mice?”
Then he took a mahogany chest
Rammed the door, not once but twice
Come on men we need something bigger
We are almost out of time
Then at the very moment
The tower clock began to chime
A cold wind whisked through the house
And brought the smell of death
The fire flickered then went out
I gasped and held my breath
The lights went out, I heard a scream
Then the sound of ferocious growls
Flesh ripping, bones crushing
Betwixt the monsters jowls
Desperate cries of agony
Echoed through the room
Nowhere to run or hide
I await my impending doom
I feel my body bathed in blood
As he devours every guest
One by one the screams are silenced
I feel his paws upon my chest
I’m knocked to the ground
I can feel his fervent breath
Stared down by evil eyes
I pray for a timely death
I await those deadly jaws
And the bite that’s sure to kill
Slay me now you bastard
I yell in a fearful shrill
Then unexpectedly I hear a voice
“My task is almost complete
You are the one I came for
Revenge is “OH SO SWEET”
“Think back to two summers ago
When from a prank you couldn’t abstain
Scaring poor Jake and Sue
Just three days before they were slain”
Did you ever feel a bit of guilt
For giving them such a fright
Did it ever occur to you
That pranks just aren’t all right
Unless they’re planned with care
Thinking everything through
This was two years in the making
And we scared the fuck out of you!
The lights came on quickly
Standing above him was Jake and Sue
Everyone there was in on it
And man did we get you!!
