As He Sleeps
So peaceful and sweet
He lays so close
Yet he dreams so far
I lay my hand on his face
Just to have my skin on his
For one moment
Like an angel he sleeps
He has the most amazing features
The slope of his nose
The bridge of his forehead
His strong jaw line
His lips are perfect
His skin is soft
I run my fingertips across his lips
To the dip where the angels kissed him
My fingers slide back up his cheek
To his hair
Short, I make a swirl
My hand slides down the back
Of his head to meet his neck
I lean in and kiss him on the forehead
Pressing my lips so softly
Not to wake him
I whisper
“I love you”
I turn over away from him
I gently move closer to him
My back to his front
I find his arm
Wrap myself in his arms
And match my breaths with his
Asleep I am
In his arms
Where I belong
As he sleeps
