I miss Belfast
In 2002, I've decided to go and live in Belfast. Why??
Because one of my friend kind dated a girl from there, who was part of a student exchange program.
I got along very well with that girl ,Jennifer who is now one of my very best friend. You'll see why.
I wanted to work abroad, and Jennifer told me that I could easily work in Belfast. took me a couple of months to get the money to go and live there.
She let me sleep on her sofa for 3 weeks til I get a house.I eventually got one about 100 yards from her house, hahaha!!So she could pratice her French, and I had someone I trusted not far.
I first worked in a French restaurant. I got fired. I honestly couldn't be bothered serving food honestly. I came back from work each night disgusted by the smell of food.
I went to work in a hotel, doing some waitering at the bar. It was so much better. I was kinda paid to serve and party. It's really funny when girls see a guy working in a bar, I was often behind the counter too, they give me a lot of attention to say the least.
My workmates were fabulous, a real team. I think about Maurice,Chris,Ciara, Claire,Emma, Gareth, the bouncers... a real family in the loving sense of the word.AT Xmas I was about to spend it alone, and some of them invited me in their family. Who would do that with a total stranger??
I met incredible people. I went out on the gay scene. I got gay , lesbian, and bi friends.Your sexuality is not important to me as long as you are nice with me that's all that matters.People would ask me: what are you doing here in a gay bar??- having a drink with my friends.they have drinks with me in straight bars, why can't I have drinks in gay clubs with them??
In case you're wondering, it's nice to be French in a foreign country. the accent doest help socializing with ladies.I also got phone numbers from girls I hadn't talked to before they ended a little piece of paper with their phone. I don't want to show off but it was good for my ego.
Why am I telling you all this?? Don't know.Maybe to let you know that you can meet very nice people in places, where you never thought going.
