What a week and it isn't even close to finished yet. As long as it doesn't get any worse I guess I couldn't ask for much else.
As some of you may know I have a sister that is paralyzed. Her and her husband went for a ride on the parkway 6 years ago this past Sunday and she was the one only that survived the ride. They were going down a hill and the breaks failed on the car...Bobby thought if he hit a tree it would stop the car but instead they flipped down a mountain and it killed him instantly and Rhonda ended up with a severed spinal cord. Needless to say these last 6 years have been filled with chaos and wondering if some of us were going to end up in a padded room with a straight jacket in place.
Rhonda has been in and out of the hospital countless times and I just pray that each time she will make it out alive. I guess it has been about 2 months ago she was put in the hospital because she has a massive pressure(bed)sore on her butt and it isn't doing much that resembles healing. The doctor decided she needed to go into a nursing home because the last place she needed to go was home by herself. She threw one hell of a fit and she swore up and down that the family was just sending her there to die and all kinds of other wonderful things. We encouraged her to go there so she would have round the clock help which is what she needs. Well we sure got a surprise let me tell ya.
That nursing home they put her in was nothing more than a damn hell hole and I am putting that very nicely. At first things were kinda ok but they have done nothing but get worse. She is supposed to be turned very two hours so no more pressure sores will form on her butt. One Friday night she called and told them she needed help so almost an hour later a nurse came in and told her that no one there would help turn her because she could do it herself. Normally she could turn herself but they put this "boot" on her leg to keep anymore sores from coming up, well she needs assistance with turning now. I don't think anyone helped her for days so only part of her body was turned because those fuckers were to lazy to take two minutes and get her straightened out. She was denied showers and bed baths quite a few times, she did not receive her medicine the way she was supposed to...things like this.
Don't get me wrong now, I do understand that she is not the only patient there BUT there is no good reason for the way she has been treated. You can tend to the patients in a timely manner instead of standing around flapping your fucking jaws. I had been to see her quite a few times and stayed at least an hour each time and every time I saw the nurses and CNAs standing at the nurses station just having themselves a grand old time while I walked up the hallway nearly gagging because people were laying in the own shit since the nurses were just oh so busy.
We went to see her Sunday and she looked really bad, I knew something was up. Well Monday she slept just about all day and she was having horrible muscle spasms, her whole body was jerking and no one bothered to give her the medicine for that. Tuesday my father and my daughter went to see her and she was still spasming really bad and she was running a fever. They had to go get her cold washclothes to put on her forehead because no one would bring her some Tylenol. Well, she called mama and asked her to call over there and tell them she wanted to go to the ER. Since mama was at work I called over there and went all sister bitch on them. The nurse attempted to get shitty with me when I was being nice so then the fangs came out of course. I told the nurse what was wrong with her and I told her that these were the signs that Rhonda was getting impacted (can't take a poop...sorry if that grossed ya out) and she was just like "Oh ok" like it was no big deal.
They finally decided to send her to the ER and come to find out she is impacted, she has a UTI and she has blood poisoning. The last time she got blood poisoning she almost died from it so it really isn't a good thing.
My nephew met her over at the hospital and ended up finding out that his cousin was in a wreck, they thought he was paralyzed but he got lucky this time.
Man I need a frickin' vacation!!!!
