Today's children grow up with so few morals and constantly cause trouble, that I am quite thankful for the "old school" way in which I was raised.
I have been very strict with my daughter in her growth so far... Never abusive, but stern, and when warranted a light tap on the still clothed butt or a smack on the hand...
So far she has great joy in her life, is exceptionally polite and well mannered in public, and keep in mind she is not yet quite two, will obey everything I tell her.
During her "out of site" moments, or when left to her own devices, she will specifically go after my things... I.E. tearing apart my cigarettes that were sitting on the table next to other's cigarettes, getting into and hiding my tools, and various other deviant activities. I know she is infatuated with her daddy as she follows me everywhere, even when it is outside or if I am working on a computer.
She persists in her devious activities even though she has been talked to about it, then scolded, hand smacked, and time out...(btw, time out works for her on other things by me simply telling her to go to her room until she calms down and wishes to come back out and behave...)
So, am I missing something? Should I continue raising her strictly and working on her deviant activities when alone? Or do you have a suggestion for trying something new? |
