Man if I ever own a company I will never treat my people like my bosses do. Those cheap jerks try to cut costs on everything. We have no union therefore no rights it seems. We have to supply our own welding gloves, Lens, Earplugs (yes earplugs) and no benefits at all. I have been a welder there for 10 years and started at 7.00 per hour cdn. I recently got a raise this past year to 14.25. After 10 years I got to double my wage. They buy old cheap rusty steel for us to weld that has split seams alot just to save a buck. I can handle that. They also have clamps holding 20 ton brake presses together. I can handle that. They make us clean the shop and actually seperate the dirt form the steel particles and have us put the dirt outside and the steel in the recycle bins. I can handle that. What I can't handle is the fact that it is damn near freezing outside and those bastards refuse to turn the heat on in the shop. To add insult to injury the vice president of the company comes out of his 72 degree office wearing a hat and coat and comments that it is cold out in the shop. Friday we all get pulled into the break room and got told to put on extra shirts and coats if we want to stay warm. Dammit I am wearing a full welding coat, and 4 long sleeve shirts and 2 pairs of pants. I am still freezing. Then they say to take vitamins because to many people are calling in sick. Here is a clue for you cheap ass turn the damn heat on!!! That way we can still show up for work and remain some what healthy. The best part is we are allowed 45 minutes of heat for every 2 hours. This is Canada it gets cold herer so turn on the damn heat. We make them shit loads of money yet they can't give us heat. How they sleep at night I have no idea.
