Heaven and Hell
It was very interesting Wednesday night. I was chatting with one of the people I do martial arts with and he brought up a very good point on Heaven and Hell. He told me that he talked to a friend once about what religion was, what is God, and Heaven and Hell. The topic came up from a discussion about esotericism (I think I spelled it wrong), but anyway, many people feel esotericism is mysticism, this is not the case. There are many religious symbols that religions have all adopted over years. So...this led to his conversation on what is Heaven and Hell, in the bible Jesus himself states that a person creates heaven or hell in oneself. Meaning if you are good to people and do good for people making both you and the person you did the good for feel good yourselves, therefore, creating a heaven in yourself because of what you have done. The same goes for Hell, if you do bad things to people you feel bad yourself, therefore, creating a hell inside yourself.
I thought about this theory and it really makes sense. Jesus may not have meant if you believe in him or his teachings you will go to "heaven" but live heaven.
I am not a religious person by any means I grew up Christian but through years of learning science and listening to other views I have discarded any so called religion. In my opinion what is the difference between religion or cult? I have my answer but think about your own. I feel belief is the same no matter if its religion or not. People strive to live for something and be a part of something. Fraternities, communities, people need to belong.
So what better then a belief.
My belief is there is a higher being but if you look through history all of the religions are based upon many of the same teachings. In fact, Mithracism is one of the oldest religions. Think about this: Mithracism was a religion pretty much only for men. It was said that a man who died in battle would go to an Oasis (heaven) and meet Mithra. The ironic part is Mithra's birthday is 12/25 the same day as Jesus, that is ironic! Religion itself is ironic because everyone claims their religion is right, but almost all religions strive for the same ideals. Dont get me wrong the ideals and rules so to speak in religion are amazing but people anymore only fall back to religion in times of need. Religions have no gone cafeteria style where people pick and choose what they want out of religion rather then taking the whole package. This is why I say people who claim to be religious are hippocrites! I dont mean all religious people are wrong or bad, I just feel the aspect of religion has lost its meaning. It was used as a belief for people when life was short, and you did not know what the next day brought. Life and death were a big part of society. People needed something not like today. We dont have to worry about plagues, wars (as much), and not surviving.
