My life has become your shadow
Always one step behind you.
You've grown accustomed to having me there,
not even noticed by you anymore.
Once I found pleasure in my place behind you,
But now all I find is misery in the shadows.
Slowly my name and face start to disappear.
Total darkness is what I have become.
My life has become part of yours,
Too tangled to ever come apart.
Will I ever become just one again?
Or will my life always be with you in the shadows?
I'm ready to be free again,
To fight this power you have over me.
Our tangled knot will come undone.
Once again we will each be one.
I know I will survive without you,
I'm ready to leave my place in the shadows.
As I emerge, light touches my face;
It warms my body once again.
My life is my own,
I'm finally free.
My name and face now reappear.
Hopefully now you'll see me for me,
And not just the person in the shadows.
