When I first saw the Nike Kobe 9 Elite, one of the first thoughts I had in mind was that we were going to be in for a treat because of the myriad of possibilities that a Flyknit upper presented. Not that the Nike Kobe 8 was any slouch (we named it the best kicks of 2013) with the engineered mesh upper, but there was the promise of Flyknit right before us and it was hard not to get hyped for it. And in many ways, the Kobe 9 Elite and its low-cut little brother delivered on that promise (although the layer of Fuse on the upper preventing from really being a true “Flyknit” basketball shoe). With the Kobe 9 Elites being priced at the $200 and above mark, the solution for those unwilling to cross that barrier was the Nike Kobe 9 EM. With the same performance benefits of the Elites but with a “takedown” upper, the Kobe 9 EM came through with its own share of solid colorways as well, proving that engineered mesh still had plenty more in the tank. The Nike Kobe 9 EM “Bright Mango” (previously known as “Peach Cream”, which is one of the shoe’s secondary colors) lives up to their name by being one of the brightest sneakers* we have seen in quite some time.
