Yea.
So I've been on a few interviews...wearing the dopey tie and sports jacket....
carrying a copy of my resume, clean shaven and bright eyed and bushy tailed.
I've never been arrested but good g0d, these interview process seem to me to
be like being grilled by Sgt.Sniskwaki. Apparently the new modus operandi;
is running back round checks and also credit reports as well. My credit isn't Triple A
plus but sufficed to say it's decent.
So anyways back to the interviews...I get peppered with alot of tech questions, as
the jobs I'm going for are all I.T. related. I'm sure I got a answer or 2 wrong but I
know I nailed like 95 % of them.
The interview ends, I get a business card and am told that there's a few more applicant's
that have to be seen. Touch base with us in a few days.
Fair enough...I call and get the secretary running interference or just voice mail.
Or call the cell and it's straight to VM. Frustrating to say the least.
And Recruiters/Head Hunters....they are utter Scheiße. I was under the impression
that they get paid to place ASS in a seat ....but it seems to me that they like to collect
resumes like kids collecting baseball cards. For example I had a meeting with a I.T. recruiter 2 weeks ago about 2 "hot" jobs...one near me and the other about,oh, a half hour away.
Both as Desk Top Tech for a Pharamutical Firm.
Of course I was asked the dopey generic techy questions which
I nailed ( and I know I did cause the guy reading them to me was a A+ cert tech as well and he said that I got them all right). From what I was told the company in question really
has/had a need for tech's. Apparently not as I've called the recruiter at least twice a week
and I get the run around.
Jeez.... talk about a ego deflater.
And looking @ Hotjobs/CareerBuilder/Monster/ and other job search sites, more than 90% of the jobs are going through Recruiters. Why? So the companies don't have to
give you any benefits, medical, holidays, etc, etc. Slick and damn cheap. But hey as long
as the CEO get's a 6 figure salary and stock options...all is good in the world.
And to me looking for work is full time job all unto it's self.....
Now I'm really at a cross roads so to speak. The Information Technology field is really
tight now...and from the looks of it I'm not getting anywhere in it. What now? I'm tossing
around the idea of going back to school...college? Vocational? Maybe become a EMT?
A electrician? A mechanic? I don't know...
Being clueless seems to be order of the day.....
