This is a bit of free verse I wrote after breaking up with my ex-fiancee.
SMASHED
A pumpkin smashed in the street;
Bleeding, pulsating, still beating;
The anguish of your tracks stinging.
The seeds of love squashed.
It’s core pounded to mush.
It’s face carved in your image
By the sharp blade of betrayal.
Lonely and broken;
Fodder for the unfaithful;
Rotting, stinking, dying.
