What are you waiting for?

I have just read the most ridiculous punch line question and its ensuing answer. It said, "How to avoid the heat this summer." Well, that is easy, you just make sure you are living in England. It is absolutely freezing here and just because the sun was shining I went out this evening in thin clothes and froze by the time the sun had gone down and night had set in. I think it is about 50 deg f out side at present but then it is nearly midnight. So the expression, "Never shed a clout until May is out can be interpreted as the month of May and not the May Blossom which is out in full glory. I am surprised it survived the frost over the last three nights. Well, Blondie might be singing "In the Flesh," but I am afraid it is still going to be "In the thermals," especially when we go for a day at the races when it will probably be pouring. There is one thing that rain has going for it and that is that it encourages me to dress accordingly, usually water-proofed and warmly. We went for an Indian meal tonight and I still cannot understand how people from Asia can put up with the cold here and still smile. Many are born here but I know where I would rather be until the monsoon season sets in. I guess we are lucky to have central heating, a roof over our heads and the wherewithal to exist therein. The more I see the papers the more I think other places beckon harder which is one reason for not reading the English papers because it is so depressing to find that you are going to be totally out in the cold because the bills will get bigger and it gets depressing. All this is until I think about all those who have only just moved back into their homes from last year's floods here and are still waiting for them to dry out. Then I discover that far flung places are so badly hit by catastrophe that I wonder why I think I am hard done by. The grass might be greener on the other side of the fence, the glass may be cleaner on the other side of the pane but I know which side my bread is buttered and it us usually butter side up so life is not so bad and there is always a thicker cardigan to hand and the thought that Summer is on the way. Brrrrr
