Love Is Only What You Make It Be
love can be flowers, chocolate, and wine
love can be dinner served right on time
love is not however the size of your house
your wallet
your job
or your car
love is so very very much more
love can be served with a pat on the back
or a pat on the butt
it is the teaching of discipline
determination
and truth
it is that encouraging word
to a heart weary soul
to a child love is
the time it takes to throw a ball
to color with him a picture to hang on the wall
or tickle and giggle before sending to bed
love is that listening ear
that does not condemn
but willingly lends
a place deep within
to store all the stories
the hurts and the woes
love is the hand that steers and guides
and helps to develop an open mind
with love in a heart
one can go far
too many of you and too many of me
do not take the time to see
that love is only what you make it be
