I noticed something different
As I went about my day
I seemed to have a shadow
That followed all the way
I would try to duck and lose it
But as soon as I stood still
And I peeked around my shoulder
It was there just waiting till
Waiting until I moved again
It didn't care which way
It was stuck to me like glue
And it would not go away
I began to think about it
And this is what I surmised
That often we do this ourselves
While going through our lives
We try to hide behind the things
Just little things we sometimes do
And after they are done it seems
We wish we could undo
But when we turn around to find
They are lost somewhere
That's because they hide behind us
Little shadows unaware
I think perhaps that this is how
Our Father in Heaven keeps tabs
For if He stands behind us
He has to see the bads
For little shadows tell it all
And that even means the sin
So if we're doing something wrong
Better quit! You will not win
God gives us choices always
Each day a clean new slate
Always the chance to begin again
It never is too late
I think that many folks don't know
That God starts a new chart each day
And that is why they feel so lost
And they cannot find the way
They feel so overburdened
And when they turn about
There is that little shadow again
It's sure to find them out
Well, that shadow I've decided
Is what God gave another name
He called it our 'conscience'
And do I need to explain
Well, conscience is the thing inside
That tells us right from wrong
And we carry it every where we go
Because God made it belong
So, instead of little shadows
It's the conscience that is there
And you can make each day right
And all it takes is prayer
So, go out into this brand new day
Knowing your slate is clean
And that we never are alone
We always have the King
