Remember When...
Remember when... Oh how those 2 little words can start a flood of memories that can trigger a multitude of emotions. Take last night. I was just yakking on the phone with my sister and suddenly, there we were, once more in the past. Not that I have a problem with the past or any thing like that, it just sort of snuck up on me. So i decided to make a list of my favorite "Remember When's.."

REMEMBER WHEN...
sodas were 25 cents and candy bars a nickle?
short skirts were what bad girls wore?
TV had 3 channels, and there was still nothing on?
smoking was cool?
and health food not?
muscle cars were the best looking on the road?
a car cost less than a house?
and a movie cost less than dinner?
music wasn't portable?
a kiss was just a kiss, not an invitation?
necking was more cool than going all the way?
kids had to use their imagination?
if a kid had a gun, it was always plastic and not real?
it was safe to walk after dark?
you could leave your car unlocked?
"paper or plastic" meant "cash or credit"?
credit was what you got at the grocery store, not the bank?
you didn't have to piss in bottle to get a job?
welfare was really for the poor?
a job was hard to get and easy to keep?
a man's word was his contract?
divorce was a dirty word?
and love wasn't?
kids were kids and not parents?
and parents were parents and not kids?
cars were a privlege and not a right?
prisons were prisons and not country clubs?
a date wasn't something you made with yourself?
and neither were appointments?
religion was not a public event?
freedom of speech meant something?
America was the greatest nation on Earth?
the biggest killer of kids was accidents, not other kids?
a death sentence actually meant death?
and a life sentence meant life?
when kids weren't disposable?
and neither were marriages?

Well, that didn't turn out exactly as I had palnned, but you get the picture. For all the modern conviences and progress we have made, it is pretty sad that we all seem to long for simpler days and what used to be. But the truth is we can never go back, no matter how inviting the past might be. So, as the old sayings went, go with the flow, and let it be. Have fun and enjoy the here and now. Someday, it too, will be the past.
